Today the most amazing woman I know turns 60. I am sure my announcing this fact to the World Wide Web is going to drive her bananas, but I have decided it just needs to happen. She is one heck of a vivacious lady and I would argue she keeps getting better with age!

The world is full of amazing mothers, but I think mine is a little extra special.
In fact, while sorting through old photo albums I found a few hand written letters that my mom wrote to me as a child. One of the letters was from May 31, 1992 and here is my favorite part:
About a half hour ago you came into the washroom while I was in the tub. This is the conversation that we had: M: “Hi Brit! I was just thinking about you.” B: “Hi Mom.” (Half asleep and one eye open) “You know you’re lucky to have me.” M: “I know that every minute of the day. Why do you think so?” B: “Because I’m lucky to have you.”(Side notes: 1. I still look like a one-eyed pirate when I get up in the morning 2. Since then I have learned it is appropriate to give people some space in the bathroom 3. I am still lucky to have my mom and Im hoping she is still lucky to have me)

Sometimes when I meet a cross road in life, and Im not sure how to act and what to choose, I wonder what my mother would do. She is the most caring and thoughtful person I know. I am lucky have her as a mother and even luckier to have her as a friend.

Don’t get me wrong, my mother can be a nut job…. she is MY mother after all. Without a doubt I know she will be reading this and deeply regretting giving me all the family photos albums.

Happy birthday to my beautiful Mama Bear. I wish you many more years filled with endless happiness and late night kitchen dance parties. Thank you for being you and for loving me the way that only a mother can.

Today my mother turns 60 and I don’t think she looks or acts her age at all. Although, I do take credit for some of her grey hairs and hopefully whole lot of the laugh lines.
