Walk through a Wedding Workshop

So if you are a regular around here you would already know that I went down to New Haven, Connecticut a few weeks back to do a wedding photography workshop. The workshop was hosted by Justin & Mary. They are amazing international wedding photographers and fabulous teachers. I first met Justin and Mary when Brent and I were models for their Profoto photography videos. Watching them work through the 3 day video shoot was awesome and I just knew I would have to come back again and do their full Walk Through a Wedding Workshop.

When then posted a May workshop date I immediately signed up and off I went for a solo 9 hour road trip to New Haven. The two day workshop was fabulous! I learned so much about dimensional and directional lighting, put a lot of thought into the ‘why’ behind my business, met amazing photographers from across the US (and a fabulous fellow Canadian), and all around had a great time!

We started the first day off at Justin & Mary’s home talking business and getting to know everyone. Then we moved onto shooting wedding details and starting working with our amazing Bride and Groom (Kayla and Brendan were a past couple of Justin and Mary and they were absolutely lovely!). After lunch we headed to our wedding venue, the Lace Factory, and got down to business photographing and learning.

Here are a few of my favorites from the workshop. Enjoy!

The florals were just to die for the entire day. Seriously, just look at this bouquet!

Our two Bridesmaids were stunning and just the sweetest! No wedding is complete without a fabulous first dance. Are they not just the most lovely couple!Ottawa_Wedding_photographer-Styled_Photoshoot

We had some fun with a sparkler send off once it got dark out!

And then we obviously had to play around with uplighting and off camera flash!Ottawa_Wedding_photographer-Styled_Photoshoot

Day two of the workshop involved less photographing but lots more learning. I will share a bit more about Day 2 next week!

Thank you to all the amazing vendors who pulled this whole day together!
