Check this project off the 71 in 1001 List! Fabulous new front entry project has been completed and it is pretty awesome if I do say so myself!
I have disliked this frot door since we moved in over 2 years ago. The window on its own is beyond hideous. It is a terrible rose pattern that is partly frosted. We own a town home, so when we wanted to change up our front door we considered what it would look like if we have a different door than our neighbours. Seems like a nice thing to consider right? Well, once we actually stopped to look, it turned out we were already the odd person out. Everyone else had blue trim and solid blue doors without windows. Clearly we were the only suckers who feel for the beige-peach door with the hideous rose window. Oh, and add in our rusted out mailbox and we you have quite the gem.
So, it took us two weekends, a little elbow grease, some paint, and a bit of imagination! I absolutely love our new door!
And since we had extra paint… might as well use it on the inside of the door too, right?
The old owners had a key pad on the door when we moved in so removing it left a bunch of holes in the door. Combine that with the mis-matched handle/lock combo and the very unfriendly sign, our front door did not exactly say “Hello and welcome to the Smith-Smyth’s”. (I realize how terrible our names sound hyphened, but it is just the reality of our lives and we have chosen to embrace it with humour!)
Since we had to take the front door off for the entire day, we decided to replace it with the door to the garage. It was a brilliant idea (although not mine… Brent gets all the credit). The garage door is a few inches thinner than the front door, so there was a a bit of a gap in the door way. Although that was better than having no door all day long (especially once the sun went down and the bugs were attracted to the lights in the house).
The new window makes me so happy. We found this window for a steal at Home Depot and then frosted the inside of the window ourselves. It give us nice light into the entrance, but still gives some privacy.
We replaced the old exterior light as well. We just wanted something simple and scored this new new light at Home Depot for about $18.00
The mail box is one of my favorite things! I sanded it and painted it with the same paint as the door so it would match perfectly. Then I had painted the “hello.” with leftover white trim paint.
